A willingness to work hard and devote tireless hours to hockey was the standard
by which Maynard contributed to the sport for more than 35 years. His endless
contributions to hockey in his native Flatrock and the complete area of St.
John's East set a standard by which all other hockey executives can be judged.
As a builder and as a player, he simply worked hard with rewarding results.
A founding member of the Avalon East Senior Hockey League, he served as
president for three years, treasurer for five years and as a director for 20
years. Overall his involvement in this viable and important hockey operation
spans 35 years as a player, coach and executive member.
In all three capacities, Maynard's contributions have been extremely valuable
and often vital to the continuance and success of the League. His contributions
earned him the NAHA Merit Award for Outstanding Service to Senior Hockey in 2000
and his devotion to the League continues to the present.
Often outspoken, always willing to devote time and energy and a driving force
behind all levels of hockey in his area of the province, Maynard owns a great
deal of responsibility for providing extended opportunities for many individuals
to participate in hockey. An excellent organizer, he is behind a large number of
beneficial happenings for his community with hockey being the major one.
