With 12 provincial senior hockey seasons as the highlight of his career, Randy Pearcey also enjoyed great success in every other level of hockey in which he played. Small in stature but big in skill and desire, his overall play installed him as one of the finest players the province has ever produced. In addition to his extraordinary performances on the ice he was an excellent referee.

He was a very valuable contributor for five teams that won the provincial championship and the Herder Memorial Trophies while earning two senior scoring titles, in 1978 and 1981. He was voted most gentlemanly player for 1981 and was the first Newfoundlander to score 50 goals in one senior season with 51 in 1978. In 175 games of provincial hockey he scored 189 goals and added 300 assists for 489 points with 304 penalty minutes to place 16th overall in scoring statistics.

For five years he played for Memorial University in Atlantic Intercollegiate hockey and was club captain for three seasons. He was among the top ten scorers for three seasons and was twice selected to the Atlantic Intercollegiate all-stars. He was a member of the provincial all-star club that represented Newfoundland and Labrador in the 1971 Canada Winter Games in Saskatoon after winning two St. John's High School scoring titles and captaining Bishops College to St. John's and provincial high school championships. He was a member of the St. John's Capitals who won the provincial junior crown in 1973.

His leadership was extremely evident in all six provincial senior hockey teams for which he played and for every other club of which he was a member. His drive and determination provided an excellent example for his teammates and his spirit on the ice was of great benefit to every member of his club.
