Alex Blanchard was one of the finest forwards to play provincial senior hockey with the Corner Brook Royals and his 15-season career involved standout performances based on exceptional talent and important grit in every game in which he played. He was a solid, contributing Royal who contributed much to the overall success that Corner Brook enjoyed between 1967 and 1984.

He was simply a valuable member of the Royals who stood out with exceptional defensive and offensive hockey because his determination and hard work was supported by a skill that allowed him to score more than his share of goals and draw more than his share of assists. His value was decided by his play in all areas of the ice with strong play along the boards and in the corners.

The caliber of play that he displayed during his entire hockey career was of such a high level that he received a tryout with the Brockville Braves of the Ontario Hockey League in 1967 but he decided to remain with the Corner Brook club. His results in front of the opponents’ goals were a major plus for hockey play.

He contributed greatly to the Royals clubs that won the provincial senior hockey title and the Herder Memorial Trophy in 1968 and 1977.

For regular season play he appeared in 312 games, scored 244 goals, and drew 208 assists for 452 points to go with 300 penalty minutes. In seven Herder Trophy playoff appearances, he added 25 goals, nine assists and 34 points. Overall, he is in the top 20 for games played, top ten for goals scored and the top 20 for points.
